PROJECT

North Richmond Community Centre and Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House (BANH) collaborate with diverse cultural communities in the public housing estates of Richmond and Collingwood. Artificial Studios partnered with these organisations to produce large-scale photographic installations across five towers at the North Richmond Public Housing Estate. These installations showcased portraits of residents and were designed to engage the estate’s 3,000 members, educating them about COVID-19 vaccines, addressing vaccine hesitancy, and encouraging vaccination.

The residents of these towers are part of CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities, where confusion and misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines were shown to contribute to hesitancy. We engaged local community leaders to connect with residents in a meaningful and compelling way.

This project aimed to mitigate some of the challenges posed by COVID-19, such as isolation and hardship, using art to foster community cohesion.

Supported by grants from the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA) and the North Richmond Community Centre, our team developed the project concept and produced the final poster designs. Artificial Studios was responsible for all photography, retouching, and graphic design elements of the project.

DELIVERABLES

Twenty large paste-ups were strategically placed across the five housing towers, with each tower featuring four installations. These photos quickly garnered significant attention on social media and were also reproduced as posters displayed in the tower foyers. Additionally, they were utilized in a variety of promotional materials by local partners engaged in COVID-19 prevention and vaccination initiatives.
