Artificial Studios is thrilled to share our recent collaboration with Homes Victoria, Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House (BANH), and Richmond Youth Hub. This partnership focused on celebrating the diverse and vibrant community at the North Richmond housing site through a series of culturally rich portraits. As part of the Big Housing Build project on Elizabeth Street, Richmond, where 144 modern, sustainably designed homes are under construction, we had the opportunity to capture the residents in a truly unique light.
We worked closely with BANH to photograph individuals from the community as they shared their favorite cultural meals and recipes. This included a special session with Fatuma, who graciously shared her beloved chapati recipe with us. These portraits not only highlight the rich cultural diversity of North Richmond but also bring to life the personal stories and heritage of its residents, adding a deeply human element to the urban development narrative.
“My Mum taught me this, as I am the oldest in the family, so I learnt cooking from her,” Fatuma said
